Instant Pot Boiled Peanuts

Updated: Jun 16

Instant Pot Boiled Peanuts: A Southern Delicacy!

I can’t wait to boil peanuts every year. If you know anything about boiling peanuts, you know they take a long time to boil. The Instant Pot is such a time saver—and, it doesn’t heat the house up or require you to boil any outdoors in the heat. I always try to boil extra when I have time, so I can put some in the freezer before they all get eaten. Note: When you purchase 1 lb of already boiled peanuts, you're going to get a lot fewer peanuts than if you purchase 1 lb of raw peanuts and boil them yourself thus saving you money.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs raw peanuts in the shell

  • 1/2 cup Kosher salt or regular table salt

  • Water to line 6 in a 6-quart Instant Pot

Instructions

  1. Sort through the peanuts, removing any debris. Rinse the peanuts well and place them in the Instant Pot.

  2. Add salt to the Instant Pot.

  3. Add water to the line 6 mark, covering the peanuts, and stir. Peanuts will float, so you will need to place a weight on top to keep them submerged. Simply place the trivet that came with the Instant Pot on top of the peanuts, then place a small Pyrex bowl (or any heatproof bowl) on top of the trivet to keep it weighted down.

  4. Lock the lid in place and close the valve. Using the manual setting, cook on High Pressure for 80 minutes.

  5. When the cooking is complete, turn the Instant Pot off and allow the pressure to release naturally.

  6. Remove a few peanuts and taste after they have cooled off enough to ensure they are salted to your liking. The longer the peanuts sit in the salted water, the more salt they will absorb. If you find the peanuts too salty, soak them in plain water until enough salt is removed to your taste.
